Douglas Vale Historic Homestead and Vineyard Promises Amazing Entertainment on BI Centennial Open Day

At 9:30am “Sing Australia“ starts off the entertainment with their wonderful melodies. This group started in 2002 with only twelve members and has now grown to over one hundred. It meets every Monday night and is well known for providing entertainment to nursing homes, retirement villages, community events, social clubs and charity events.

In recent years Sing Australia has proven to be so popular that two further groups have been established, the first in Wauchope and a second daytime group in Port Macquarie.

The next performing group is trained by Krista Gilen who is responsible for the performance of “Team Zumba Krista”. Krista is a licensed Zumba teacher and an Internationally acclaimed Swing Dance Teacher. Her career started over 35 years ago in her home country of Belgium. Krista teaches a variety of Zumba to an amazing selection of students.

Tom Mcllveen plays harp, guitar and does back-up vocals with Susan Ashton and Judy Henry; the group is called ‘Spiral Time’. They offer a diverse mix of timeless hits from the 60’s and 70’s in folk, rock and pop.

Following Spiral Time will be Port Macquarie Dance Latin Performers. This will be their first performance at Douglas Vale. Port Macquarie is a hub for dancing with the aim to inspire people dance, feel confident and have fun on the dance floor. The instructors are experienced, teaching with a fun method approach to make it enjoyable to learn in a friendly and safe environment. Dancing is great exercise for body and mind but also increases your fitness level. All that whilst having fun and meeting people with similar interest. The Latin Dance group performing the demonstration are Latin dance students from both the Port Macquarie and Taree/Old Bar Studios. Nuscha is the Latin Dance instructor of both locations and the students are of the beginner and intermediate levels. Most of them can dance a Latin mix of Salsa, Bachata and Bacha Tango – all fun and beautiful Latin Dance styles being showcased in demonstrations.

At midday there will be a special bicentennial event. It is a performance of the historical enactment of the play “John Oxley’s Journey To Port Macquarie”. This play has been sponsored by the Port Macquarie Hastings Council Bicentennial Grants program.

A special vote of thanks goes to Pauline Roods for her beautiful artwork in the lifelike Australian Bush Scene on the backdrop of the stage.

Also thank you to the Derivan Paint Company in Sydney for supplying the paint.

Our next guests will be from the Port Macquarie Bush Poets Society who will be there to entertain with their wonderful selection of Bush Poetry. This organisation of talented poets and performers meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday afternoons of each month at the Senior Citizens Hall in Munster Street, Port Macquarie. They love sharing their wealth of poetry with others.

The final performers on the program will be Sharon and Mal; members of the Hastings Country Music Club. They have lived in Port Macquarie for over thirty years and have been performing around the Mid North Coast for around six years at charity events. Sharon is a singer and song writer and was nominated in the top ten in the APRA Awards Australia Wide for her song “The Old Folks at Home“.
